Are you ready to go the next
level in your prayer life? If so, the Holy Spirit has provided a way for you to
get there! Through His ministry, you can tap into the awesome power of praying
in the Spirit, or in tongues. These perfect prayers connect you to God like
nothing else. These perfect prayers connect you to God like nothing else. First
Corinthians 14:2 in The Amplified Bible says, "For one who speaks in
an [unknown] tongue speaks not to men but to God…." When you pray in the
Spirit, you are not only speaking one-on-one with God, but you are also tapping
into His wisdom. The very answers you seek are being spoken over your life.
Living waters (wisdom) will flow out of your innermost being, which is your
human, reborn spirit (John 7:38, AMP).
Satan operates in the realm of the soul (mind, will and emotions). When you pray
in your native language, or in your understanding, he knows what you are saying
and can bring in fear, doubt and unbelief to contaminate your faith. Then,
instead of confidently praying in the results you desire, you may be tempted to
pray fearfully, out of emotion and without the Word of God as your foundation.
Praying in tongues, on the other hand, enables you to bypass your soul, build
yourself up in your most holy faith and keep yourself in the love of God (Jude
1:20-21).
I like to think of tongues as "Morse Code" between the Father and His children.
You are able to transmit top-secret information to heaven, and the devil is
unable to break the code. This makes praying in the Spirit a powerful tool for
believers. For instance, if you are trying to get out of debt, begin by speaking
what God's Word has to say about your finances. Then "seal the deal" by praying
in the Spirit and not in your natural language.
Romans 8:26 says, "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities; for we
know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh
intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." When you pray
in tongues, you not only have the power of God's Word behind you, but the Holy
Spirit also prays the perfect prayer that gives you wisdom and the steps you
need to take to overcome challenges. However, you must be sure to
release your faith for the interpretation. First Corinthians 14:13 encourages
you to pray so that you may interpret. As with all things, practice makes
perfect--so don't quit thanking God for the interpretation even if you don't
receive it right away. It will come! Once you have been given the
interpretation, you will have the faith you need to proceed with God's
instructions. What a wonderful way to derail Satan and keep him out of your
affairs!
If you don't have a prayer language, ask God to fill you with this precious gift
of the Spirit. Remember, as with any gift from God, you must receive it by
faith. Then, open your mouth and let the Holy Spirit speak through you. Although
it may sound strange to you, continue to speak as the Spirit leads you. A word
of caution: be cautious not to get "deep" or "hyper-spiritual" with it and
attempt to do things like cast out demons in tongues or rely solely on tongues
for edification rather than on the Word of God. Instead, use your prayer
language to propel your prayer life to a level in God that you cannot get to by
natural means. Stir yourself up to believe God for the "super" and the answers
to the mysteries in your life!
